From our recent trip to New York City, here are our top hotspots (mostly based around food – naturally!)
Visiting New York at the start of Fall couldn’t be more idyllic for Central Park – beautiful Autumnal hues, a slight chill in the air (nothing that some stylish layering couldn’t fix!) and a Bellini at The Boathouse on the lake in the park. Pack your walking shoes, or jump on a horse and carriage, and spend some time exploring this beautiful iconic park.
A little gem based between Lower Manhattan and East Village, Stanton Social is a must-try. We ordered everything on the menu! It’s named ‘social’ for a reason, the food is great for sharing (the ‘chicken n’ waffles’ and Stanton Social beef wellington being our highlights), and the music was hit after hit (if you like RnB, which we do!).
Just around the corner you can also find Beauty & Essex (same owner as Stanton Social), another NYC (& Las Vegas) must! The front looks like an old pawn shop, but a subtle door behind the cashier opens up a playful restaurant and bar space with delicious food.
Teeny tiny Tiny’s is fantastic! Based in Tribeca, we visit for breakfast, and enjoyed delicious fluffy buttermilk pancakes next to a quaint little fireplace with our weekend newspaper, felt like home from home. The building dates to 1810 and much of the original materials have been restored and overlayed with whimsical American finish detail. In addition, the space is decorated with pieces dating back as far as 100 years. The rooms are finished with brick, two-tone antique wallpaper, original tin ceilings, salvaged wood paneling, custom banquettes and hand-made tile.
Start at Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment in the West Village (obviously!) – 66 Perry Street and then walk to Dominque Ansel, around the corner for delicious sweet treats! We are dribbling dreaming of the Ultimate S’more, and Cinnamon Spun Roll. The calories are worth every bite! (and anyway, you……. )
Walk as much as you can! Enjoy every moment. In the Middle East, the heat often / always deters us from walking (we could barely remember how to put one step in front of the other!), so enjoy leisurely strolls through the streets of New York as much as you can. Shopping along 5th Avenue, evening walks through Williamsburg (with some really cool hangouts), late night munching on a hot dog / pizza on a paper plate! (yes we’re back to eating, but walk it off!)
Based in East Village, and Brooklyn (you need to go over the Brookly Bridge as a bucket moment!), Sweet Chick do the best chicken & waffles in town (so we’re told, and we believe them from tasting them!). Southern Fried Chicken, and waffles sounds a bit bizzare, we were nervous, but once tasted, we have decided Dubai needs a Sweet Chick! Life changing.
